Randy Murphy, a true southern gentleman, was a long-time member of our church. As it is written in the Beatitudes, he reached out and gave to the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake.
He moved through the world in his unpretentious, tender way, blessing others, believing in God’s blessing, perhaps especially for the poor, the mourners, the hungry. A friend said of him, “His kindness was the key to his longevity.”
Randy was one of our church’s first Stephen Ministers, a passion he shared with his beloved wife, Jewell. Randy was particularly suited for this ministry.
We are thankful for this loving, steadfast, quiet, endearing man who made the decision to include our church in his estate plans. Because of his loving and faithful decision to give to our church’s endowment fund through his estate, his passion for our church’s ministries will be able to live on, through the work of our church, in the lives of God’s people for many years after his lifetime.

Planned giving presents the opportunity for our members to extend their financial support of our church beyond our lifetimes. Our goal is not to elicit a planned gift from every member, but to give every member the opportunity to make an informed decision about making a planned gift to Second Presbyterian Church.
